Wolfram ore with low wolfram volume has to become concentrate by washing to be used as raw materials of smelting. According to the type of mine, wolfram beneficiation can be divided into wolframite and scheelite beneficiation. Our country now mainly exploits quartz vein-type wolframite which takes up over 90% of the volume of the ore mining.
The main beneficiation methods of wolfram ore have hand-election re-election media, re-election, flotation, magnetic and electric election etc. Wolframite main takes re-election and scheelite main takes flotation. In our country, most of wolframite is the type of free milling ore. While the structure of scheelite is complex, most of it belongs to refractory ore. And with low grade, it is not exploited very much. Besides at present wolfram ore oxide wolframine etc are not recycled.
There are fire and water methods to smelt wolfram. Scheelite black and white are used in the smelting. But duo to the different smelting process, when deposit has both wolframite and scheelite, orebody should be delineation, and calculate their reserves respectively. When scheelite black and white are mixed together, they should be elected to smelt.
As wolfram smelting of mineral raw materials, Wo3 in scheelite should reach or over 65%. By fire method, it is smelted to wolfram iron alloy (W＞70 or ＞65%). By water method, it is smelted to sodium tungstate, ammonium sodium tungstate sodium or calcium. At last to further deal with tungsten trioxide(WO3≥99.9%) and then use reductant to reduction of tungsten powder(W≥99.9%) etc.
